Musical anorak and performer, terminal petrolhead.
Must’ve been at the end of a very long evening.

A decision to use the earlier recording was valid 🙂

I well remember reading an article written in the mid seventies which nominated 1972 as worst year ever in rock and roll and how things had gone through the floor since c. 1968. Amazing how perspectives have changed.

I remember almost feeling guilty for listening to Traffic’s second album for instance as an eighteen year old. The first one, as it was seen as psych, was socially acceptable.

In the late 70’s/early 80’s, when I first got into music, the early seventies were seen as a bloated wasteland. As a consequence of this we never really listened to any music post 1968 or pre 1977 rock for a long long time. Amazing how this has now been re-written.

....are typical Croz. Always challenging something!

The ‘cover’ was the first released recording and features ol’ Croz on guitar.

I’ve always loved it. Moody as hell performance coupled with a searing vocal from La Croz. Stunning.
The Airplane version is brilliant too.

I do appreciate that. There are bits that sound like Mecca. Fascinating hearing it isolated.

It’s so obviously John. I cannot be convinced otherwise.

Time I cracked it out again. Hergest Ridge isn’t too far away from here. As I remember I too prefer the 1976 (which one is the one that sounds like musique concrete in places? The 1974??

Me also. I’d love to hear a more stripped back version. The songs are swamped.

I’d lose concentration very quickly. Life is too short.

If it’s not worth your time turn it off. Many records have caused me to do this over the years.

Imogen Holst supposedly vetoed recordings and performances of this eccentric work (barring the electrifying ballet music) for many years. This though is a recording of a BBC radio production in 1967. Fascinating. How I missed this being released (in 2021) I have no idea. I shall shortly dig in 👍🙂
