Having seen Mr. RT on Friday evening I thought I’d like to hear ‘You Me Us’ again. I didn’t have it on my iTunes so started looking for a cheap copy on eBay. Thankfully I didn’t hit the button. I had no idea I had it, even more so ‘Small Town Romance’ which isn’t easy to find. #richardthompson

1) One of my favourite bands for decades, yet I'd never really read anything about them. Turns out things were more fractious than I believed possible, with power struggles on a daily basis, plus a drugs bust which was handled very badly.

Recent reading. The extremely sad Nick Drake book is superlative, if slightly light on the actual music. Who knew ‘Bryter Layter’s use of instrumentals were inspired by Neil Young’s use of similar tracks on his first LP?

Slightly better are Spooky Tooth. A really good antidote to Nirvana. They sounded like a real band, and they rock and roll.
