Just before the start of the Thanksgiving rush I wandered the Wifredo Lam retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. His horned creatures seemed curious and mischievous to me. Not demonic or frightening.

This has gotten very little coverage in the US, but on Monday US military contractors or troops or some other paramilitary group placed signs on a beach in Mexico, claiming it as US territory. (The contested location is close to the SpaceX base outside Brownsville)

I visited Galerie Templon in NYC yesterday and spent a moment immersed in Chiharu "Connected to the Universe." I took pictures of my favorite pieces. The single needle-like figure and the threads shooting out of it into intricate swirls and messy loss threads spoke volumes to me.

In a Lyft, in an Uber, or in a taxi there is something carthartic about the ride from LaGuardia through Queens and Brooklyn to Manhattan.

The time is just whooshing by! I'm having a hard time coping with the fact that we'll be singing "Auld Land Syne" in just about 8 weeks! Before then, I wanted to share some pics from this year's @newyorkcomiccon.bsky.social It's been the highlight of my October every year! flic.kr/s/aHBqjCzkLw

@newyorkcomiccon.bsky.social I want to change my survey answer to panels I'd like to see next year - I'd like to see "Friday the 13th: The Series." This JoBlo Originals video brought back so many good memories for me. youtu.be/6V-PReNYmnA?...

I recently learned Tubi is streaming my favorite adaptation of the classic "Journey to the West" - the 1996 Hong Kong TVB production starring Dicky Cheung! AND they're streaming it in its original Cantonese with English subtitles!

Thank you @jamesgunn.bsky.social for the more realistic portrayal of Krypto. Superman was a lot of fun but it was Krypto that made the movie for me. I honestly teared up a bit as it made me think of my own dog that passed earlier this year.

If you're in the area, walk through the new Diane Arbus exhibit at the Park Avenue Armory. Spread out among the photos on this grid-like lattice are reflective surfaces that in a way add your reflection/your portrait to the hundreds taken by Arbus.

Has it really been 40 years? I have vague memories of getting up early on a Saturday in the summer before my freshman year at college with a stack of blank VHS tapes and my finger on the record button of the family VHS player. I think I was there almost the entire day.

Dementia 21 might be my Steppenwolf

SPOILERS! There may be spoilers in this post. Do not read further, if it concerns you. It is definitely my age that gives Shintaro Kago’s Dementia 21 a little more bite. A little more darkness. A little more sadness. And a little more humor. A friend once told me that Herman Hesse’s Steppenwolf tells an entirely different story when read as a 30-year-old than the one a high schooler reads when assigned it in English class.

I drifted into the Seven Seas booth at Anime NYC last Friday and saw this book standing above all the cat books. I've been binging the anime on Crunchyroll since and am eager to read "No longer allowed in another world."

@annlynzee.bsky.social Hi, I have been meaning to tell you that I really enjoyed the @animenewsnetwork.com panel at last Friday's #animenyc. BTW writing this between episodes of Yatagarasu. I'm about ready to start #8.
