Ex Canadian military now a fire inspector
It’s been a bit for me as well. Really the only thing I miss is some of the people I talked to over there I haven’t found here.

I remember in 1983-85, we were posted over to England on exchange posting. We had access to this base to use the PX. We would sometimes drive up there and not gain access either because of the protests or because special flights were coming in.

It’s just the engineers practicing. They’re getting ready to join the Canadian Geese.

One more reason my bike that I don’t ride this year may stay in the garage next year.

I took part in the veterans march the last two years. I didn’t do it this year. It’s something I’ll never forget. Peace is worth fighting for but war should always be the last resort. It causes so much damage not all of it visible. I don’t think any escapes unscathed.

I try to go out of my way not to get free stuff or military discounts. I did it one year a restaurant offered a free meal, desserts still cost,
for Remembrance Day I had it and when it came time for the bill, I tipped the waitress for what the meal would have cost. She was surprised as many didn’t

I followed her on the other site. She is very dedicated to giving theses soldiers their identities back. It can take years for the process to be completed and a lot of things have to go right to solve a mystery over 100 years old.

A local GTA radio station mentioned this fact this morning. They basically said if it wasn't for the song, most people would probably have never heard of or remembered the sinking of the ship.

This is a great organization. In my day job I can come in contact with homeless vets. I have their number in my phone for these cases.

I remember getting to see the tunnels in 2006. My wife and I visited Vimy Ridge and while the tunnels were closed, they would open them if there were Canadians there. It was nice there was only 4 of us (my wife and I and a British couple).

It's something you'll remember for the rest of your life. I can still remember some of the things my daughters said when they were younger.

Glad they just had that exercise. It always helps when it is fresh in your mind. I remember the yearly exercises. We would train for what could be the worse case scenario, but would change it up every year, depending on the base we were at. For a fire like this you need really good mutual aid.

Here's a breakdown of what could have happened. I've watched his channel before and he seems really good at saying this is what we "know" happened and this is what "could have" happened.

No problem, me too. Just to be clear, I'm not a pilot. Just a Canadian military airport firefighter for 10 years (retired). We learned a lot on the issues planes can run across. We have a certain number of minutes to respond to areas on and off the airfield.

Losing an engine during take off is one of, if not the worse place to lose it. The plan is under its biggest stress, very heavy weight and once it reaches a certain speed it can't stop on the runway. Even with the other engines running it may not be able to keep airborne.

If the pylon fell off it could be a fire due to broken fuel lines, but I can't say for sure. I don't know if they will ever find out.

Sounds like they did the best they could in a no win situation. My thoughts also are with all the responding first responders, as a former ARFF firefighter this would be among the worse case scenario you could face.
