Today, I met with firefighters who have been on the frontlines battling the ongoing LA fires since Day 1.

My deepest appreciation goes to the brave men & women protecting our communities. We will continue to help Californians as we embark on our next steps to recovery.

The extreme weather conditions California first responders are facing are unprecedented. From record-breaking droughts to hurricane-force winds — climate change is here and it is real.

We will continue to do all that we can to help Californians recover from these fires and advance toward recovery.

Throughout his career at Pasadena Fire Department, Sean Katt has responded to many fires across the US, but the #EatonFire was unlike anything he'd ever seen before.

Wind gusts exceeding 100 miles per hour made the fire's behavior unpredictable and chaotic.

Incidents like fire whirls, which form as winds pick up flames, have severely impacted crews’ ability to fight the fires.

Thank you, President Trump, for coming to Los Angeles and standing with Californians impacted by these firestorms that have devastated our communities.

I look forward to working together to help Southern California recover and rebuild.

For nearly three weeks, thousands of firefighters and personnel have mobilized to SoCal to protect our communities.

They've battled flames along thousands of acres while facing extremely inhospitable conditions on the ground.

We commend your bravery. Thank you to our heroes.

On January 12, I issued an executive order waiving CEQA and Coastal Act permitting requirements — and directed state agencies to find additional codes and permit requirements to suspend to speed up rebuilding.

I agree with President Trump that permitting requirements should not hinder a speedy recovery for LA wildfire victims to restore their homes and businesses — which is why I have already waived state environmental regulations and directed agencies to identify opportunities for further streamlining.
