Gen and Takahashi are both hiding with their guns behind a table, which currently seems to itself be exploding from gunfire. Gen screams out “Wow!!” Takahashi yells “shit!” Their faces suggest that they’re having a great time.

I do think it’s funny how often Gen watches Takahashi get his brains blown out.
Gen, a character from the manga “Ajin: Demi-Human,” looks over a pair of binoculars and says “Got the cuffs. We need to give him a chance to revive.” In the next panel, a bullet whizzes past his face, close enough to leave a scrape across the bridge of his nose. In the final panel, the bullet has continued into Takahashi’s head, causing a spray of blood out the other side. The sniper rifle he was leaning on has fallen askew. Takahashi is almost horizontal from the impact of another bullet, this time going straight down the scope of a rifle, through his eye socket, and out the back of his head. Gen watches from cover, and looks more confused than anything.

I had a good night tonight.

A stage bathed in chilling red light, which washes out over the visible audience. Standing in front of the stage in a normal, white, unflattering spotlight is yours truly, looking nonplussed.

Celtic Classic is honestly one of my favorite weekends of the year.

Had a zoom meeting with the officiant today, and Sarah asked me to change the record in the background to something less offensive (looking), so I picked the purposely inoffensive one.
A record case rests in our “now playing” shelf, its cover completely black with no picture or text. You can see the record spinning on the turntable, however, and it’s revealed to be Smell The Glove by Spinal Tap.

There was a thing this weekend.
A wall in an art gallery adorned with a quote from photographer Eric Meola: “I had a sense of the history unfolding in front of my camera; I wanted to photograph that history more than anything I have ever wanted.” A photo of my brother Brendan wandering purposefully yet aimlessly in a gallery of Eric Meola’s photographs from the session that would lead to the iconic cover of the Born To Run album. Among the photos are two more quotes, this time from Bruce Springsteen: “We were incongruent, missing pieces to an old and unresolved puzzle, two longing halves of an eccentric and potent whole.” “Music on the radio is a shared fever dream, a collective hallucination, a secret amongst millions and a whisper in the whole country’s ear.” A Bruce Springsteen quote on the wall: “Our adventure began with that double-wide photo, taken by Eric Meola, in the window of every record store in America.” Next to it is the iconic photo itself: Clarence Clemens, looking straight at the camera while emphatically playing his saxophone. Bruce, with his leather jacked and guitar, leaning on Clarence’s shoulder, looking at his friend with his eyes overflowing with love.

Panels from the graphic novel adaptation of Slaughterhouse Five. A German soldier reads from a letter to English POWs who are tending to American POWs. The letter was written by Howard W Campbell, Jr, who in these panels is described thus: “Before defecting, Howard was a playwright in Schenectady, New York. Some said he had the highest I.Q. of all war criminals. He would later hang himself while awaiting trial. So it goes.” The German soldier reads the letter: “America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even Though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and Therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking a cruel question:” The final panel shows a bartender with a sort of smarmy grin, while a large sign behind him reads: “IF YOU’RE SO SMART, WHY AIN’T YOU RICH?”

Got it hanging in my bedroom, first thing I see every day.

The Chinese place I go to recently updated their app, and this is making me chuckle.

A can of Olipop, the prebiotic soda. The flavor is Ridge Rush, which is their version of Mountain Dew (you can tell cuz the can has a picture of green mountains on it)
