Totally understand! The "how did their prejudices and taboos differ from ours" is an interesting thing but... well, I can imagine you not wanting to talk about it publicly much for the same reason my teachers didn't *mumble* years ago...

That's what I was thinking... I was at a video streaming company for y2k so it didn't affect me /personally/ at my job, but I was aware of the amount of work that went into finding every two digit year in 20-year old COBOL code to make it a non-event

...for as painful and out of date as I thought that stuff was in 1999 when it all came around again, if you were just being trained up on it in 1986 I guess it wasn't as far out of date as it felt...

I've started to wonder whether some people understand there's objective truth in the universe... less "if we say it we make it true" and more "I'm pretty sure my opinion matters more than other people's"

I guess. Whatever it was, I was guessing Edgar the Bug there was mostly harmless in practice, drunk guy there probably isn't somebody with access to anything wildly scary
