BREAKING: Chasàn Chùa is officially a territorial park! 🎉

This new designation protects 36 square kilometres of forest, wetlands, and waters in the Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) area. We are SO happy. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

The other week we hosted a sensory walk & art day with YukonU students at Chasàn Chùa/McIntyre Creek. We slowed down to take in the smells, sounds, & textures of spring, and loved how the sun played with branches through shadows that shifted on the water. Grateful for these spaces! #EarthDayEveryday

💧 Two leaks (containment pond Dec and pipe Feb) led to cyanide levels 2x & 10x BC's acute aquatic life guidelines for safety.
⚠️ Cyanide, cobalt & nitrite above chronic limits since Dec.
✅ Water treatment finally operational & treats cyanide at 3,000 m³/day. (2/4)

🚿 3,000 m³/day (3 million L) discharged since mid-Feb to manage amount onsite—containing cobalt above federal limits & site’s amended water licence. (1/4)

Et’o Nyäk Tagé has long sustained both people & wildlife. But the #EagleMineDisaster continues to threaten the watershed, with cleanup & monitoring likely needed for years. We need to ensure these mining failures never happen again, help us demand a public inquiry ⬇️

We're sad to hear about Jimmy Johnny’s passing and send condolences to friends & family. He took every opportunity to protect the water: “The water is the most powerful thing. It gives us life, it gives us plants, animals... That’s why I’m fighting this.”
