The same is true of the term “socialism.”

Whatever the fuck you think it means, it has too negative a connotation for American politics. If you have to explain what it’s NOT, you’re losing.

I suggest a new name, logo & slogan

We should be called:

Why track hurricanes when we can just deactivate the space lasers
A huge blow was dealt to hurricane forecasters this week as a critical tool was abruptly terminated by the Department of Defense and NOAA. The immediate discontinuation of data from three weather satellites will severely impact hurricane forecasts this season and beyond. More ⬇️

This is like the dude who built the Titan submersible going “Nah my pickup is totally safe in the face of an EF-4 wedge tornado passing fifty yards in front of me.”

Except he didn’t steer with a Nintendo game controller.

Love the prose style of @juliusgoat.bsky.social and kept thinking he should publish a novel. Guess what? He has! Looking forward to this one.

I’m old enough to remember when “cyber” was more about getting busy online and less about preteen fan art for Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

Most galaxies look like glowing space hurricanes because we're too far away to see much detail. You definitely can't see their hundreds of billions of stars.

But Andromeda is right next door, cosmic-wise. Zoom all the way in on this pic and have your mind blown.

this was published in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and barely found an audience, but I think it's an allegory for 2024 and beyond and I'd be honored if you gave it a peek
