In a world where we all share largely the same problems - consumer rights, addiction, building stable democracies, pollution , just to name a drop in the sea - discussing "are Ukrainians white" is irresponsible to the point of separatism. This is a "not it" blame game, designed to be that by the 1%

But Dumbledore's story teaches kids to forgive people for being human.

Awesome as Gandalf is, I don't remember anything that has stuck with me from his arc. Hard worldbuilding characters are kinda slaves to exposition - for better or worse.

I don't feel you can just do a < or >

Well I guess it depends on what you seek in fiction. I don't care how detailed the world is, I prefer soft worldbuilding + moving stories. Other people enjoy world bible/epic stuff.

Doesn't change the fact that me and a lot of other people I know are readers thanks to HP too.

Dumbledore actually teaches kids about good or bad though, esp. in the books.

Gandalf/Saruman/ are just parts of a rich but ultimately pointless tapestry a great worldbuilder made. Different stuff.

Fashionable as it is to hate her, the books are great for what they are.

Made me remember the old MI6 adage that a true human being should be able to commit terrible things and don't let them stain the soul, if the need is there.

You'd want brave people, people who fight back. But you'd also want them to remain human, or the next cycle is even less humane.

It seems that none of the people who reply to that have read past the headline. That, or there's just too much bad faith.

Do you not see that this exact thread of reactions to her words is why she is quoting one of the most vile dictators on violent speech tactics?

Which makes Minecraft emergent, but makes the Minecraft computer boring...unless you code something interesting on it 🤔

Finite state automata can have or not have emergent properties. Game of life is finite, but look at the interesting complexity it creates with those simple rules.

Games that feel flat lack emergence. Like a bad roguelike where all rewards are just stat buffs instead of new skills/mechanics

What really deserves a mercy kill is the current talk-past-eachother culture of bad faith political debates. And that wasn't killed, it was made stronger.

"Event sold out"; "not all members want the event to proceed so cancelled"; "Trust me this isn't antisemitism"; "No evidence of zionism" (like that would've been a good enough ground in the first place)

Their "Flamingo" is worthy of a two hour long space opera right in your head. IMO their best tracks are what they call their "freestyle tracks", something not solely made for the 4 on the floor shows

If you understandably cannot find it within yourself to extend empathy towards a terrible person, at least pity the child that had to become that person.

Ultimately, if the society's only option is to put someone down, it's the failure of the society. And we all have to feel that.
September 12, 2025 at 7:17 AM
Of course! But them celebrating your death doesn't make you want to uplift and educate people and show them empathy.

A circle needs to be continuously broken on both sides.

Even if something like that needs to happen, we can remain human.

The OP seemingly understands fighting hate with smarts, but some just never learn. There's even a member of clippy movement who IS fighting for the right to repair by changing their profile pic, but not knowing what to DO generally translates into saying the most extreme shit for these types

It always amused me how in authoritarian regimes the smarter the person the more they retranslate fear, all out of good intentions too.

At least in your country, unlike ussя and so on, you can take a leaf out of Tony Soprano's book. Just remember that Aesopian language is the language of slaves

Discord sometimes feels meaningful. Twitter/BS feels like somebody pointedly talking totally-not-about-you at the next table in a cafe.

Imagine if discord had a like counter under every message and every live speaker's avatar.

I don't think BS' architecture is all that great.

My problem is that it's trying to be "Twitter classique" and that it's not that good of a thing anyway

For instance, I have to actively remind myself that you're a nice person from those vids in order to not give your posts a bad read. This platform does something to you. I'm not sure it's just me

No let's leave it at that - "no boom". Not "no boom and actually better" because it isn't.

"No boom" is good enough.

We need an environment where people are inspired to ask their own questions about the world and research the answer, and not be bombarded with billions of answers begging for a question. This sounds like neither TikTok nor Twitter.
