All three Boston games this season have followed a similar blueprint, the offense struggling after halftime without enough rim pressure to sustain.

That, and the bench has yet to get back to where it was in those first six weeks.

The Heat have had plenty of shorthanded wins in recent history, where they leverage speed for stops and shooting for just enough offense.

Tonight, they were on the other side of that as Chicago offered them a night to forget.

It was an unremarkable game in Chicago, right up to the point where it very much wasn't.

As the Heat got back to their identity on defense, Erik Spoelstra made a late decision which again showed his ever-flexible evolution.

The threes and the bench, led by Simone Fontecchio, kept Miami alive for a spell, but with Orlando controlling the paint and the possession battle going the wrong way, it only took one more tough third quarter to swing this one to the Magic.

It was a very January game in late January, but it's better to find ways to win those than not and Miami had just enough shot creation to take a defensive slugfest in Phoenix.

This was the first time since Bam was drafted that Miami lost a game in which they scored 30+ points off turnovers.

Why? How? This also would have been just the second game Miami won in those years while being outshot by 20+% from three.

The rule of back-to-backs is that as long as you win, you get a pass on whatever else transpired.

The Heat did their job, shooting their way to victory in a get-right game reminiscent of the earlier months of this season.

Considering who the Warriors had available by the end, with Curry in foul trouble, it's tough to look at this as anything but a missed opportunity.

Miami did their work on the glass, but turnovers cost them and the shooting couldn't keep up.

The shorthanded Heat needed many things to go right against the champs, and there's many things they made sure went right.

That's what you need, including magic from Adebayo, Wiggins and two-way Myron Gardner, to pull out an unlikely victory.

The Heat landed in the same spot against Boston as they were against Phoenix, and this time similar shots didn't fall.

But its putting yourself in that position, unable to hold another late lead, that puts you at the mercy of the make or miss.

The Heat needed this one. Bam Adebayo needed this one. And they both got it without doing anything out of the ordinary.

The team has its winning formula. Adebayo has his shot profile. They found solutions within both.

Miami's shooting bounced back, but that only led to this being the first time since 1991 that Miami lost a game by double digits in which they shot 50%+ from three and their opponent finished sub-30%.

Plus, the Thunder flip the paint points.

The Heat's two worst offensive games of the season have come in the last two games.

You could see why against Minnesota, but answers were tougher to come by on a cold night in Indiana as we again saw pick-and-roll usage tick up.

When the threes were falling and the pace was up, the offense was enough to keep Miami in the game.

But when the winds changed, there wasn't enough to fall back on as the Wolves took the rematch episode in repeat style.

Life is good when you're forcing turnovers, and more often than not recently the Heat have been forcing turnovers, including 25 from the Pelicans, and making offense look easy.

Plus, Erik Spoelstra tells us something in playing Myron Gardner.

Offense has been the story of the season, but the Heat remain a defensive team through and through as this winning streak has been all about pressure creating turnovers.

The second half was a show worth the price of admission, but before this one turned for a long-awaited win over Denver, it was again Miami's defense leading the way.

That, and a renewed Nikola Jovic, now a center.

Turnovers continued to feed the beast as Miami played free and easy on a back-to-back, posting dominant offensive numbers in every facet.

The story, though, might be Nikola Jovic getting back to the style that was so promising months ago.

Miami's offense again struggled for traction against good defense as Toronto pressured high, slowed it down and helped liberally in the paint.
