It's genuinely incredible, though, how much US headlines read like Louis XVI and Tsar Nicholas II's last days doing everything they could to guarantee only one possible outcome.

I need to stop reading so much American political news, it's not going to matter in a year, is it?

Ethically I know I should be vegetarian, but every time I walk into a fast food place I revert to being Henry VIII:

The miracle of El Paso Elsewhere is that @writnelson.bsky.social's voice acting is so expressive he makes OG-Tomb-Raide-style polygons feel animated.

You don't need to change a render when cracking your voice triggers the Kuleshov effect harder than a hard cut.

My guy, you're why I can't even send mail to my US friends from this continent anymore.
President Trump warns an Australian reporter that he’s hurting Australia because he asked him about his business activity: You are hurting Australia very much right now. They want to get along with me. Your leader is coming to see me soon, I'm going to tell him about you.

You know, I think if I ever get murdered, I'd take it as a sign I had lived a terrible life if a majority of the people who *liked* me were more excited by the opportunity than sad I was dead.

Listen, you can't blame everything on capitalism. Some things are just the fault of industrialization!

If Visa and Mastercard create a prohibition capable of giving crypto a general usecase and widespread adoption, all my internal thoughts are just going to be replaced with dentist-drill tier screaming.

What Elon is doing with Grok right now feels criminal, even though there isn't a law against it.

There should probably be a law against making Mechahitler.

Just thinking about how "Grandma and Grandpa" have the same prefix, but "Gran" only ever means "Grandma"

"I had the nicest dream. I was screenwriting, working in film again."

"You were saying 'kill me, kill me, kill me' in your sleep over and over again."

"Yeah, that makes sense."

Every time I use something that has "Must be used in a well-ventilated area" on it, I kiss my fingers and raise them to the sky to thank Mother Earth for tanking another one for the team

New pair of inuit goggles to help with my hypersensory problems. I hate sunglasses because my brain works overtime trying to colour correct, I *cannot* see the blue and black dress as white and gold.

These protect eyes by limiting field of view instead, which feels way better!

A little example of maths for showing how supply chains are impacted by tariffs way harder than their initial number.

It's pretty normal for pieces to cross borders multiple times in complex manufactured goods. Assume five border crossings, with a flat $10 of labour added at each step:

Movie genre is based on colour; If it's green it's science fiction, if it's blue it's crime, if it's yellow it's action, if it's saturated it's romance/comedy, if it's desaturated it's drama. It's that easy.

If you change the colour of the movie you also change the genre. I don't make the rules.

I always put the most effort into the forewords I write, because it's the only part of my books I expect immediate friends and family will read.

I imagine this is how scientists feel about their headlines.

I've noticed the phrase "Bicker like an old married couple" really fell off since no-fault divorces began. It's like comparing action movie trends to lead levels.

The far-right are mostly anti-intellectual, It's not intelligence they dislike. There's nothing these motherfuckers love more than a smart guy who's enough of a dumbass to share their opinions.

Remembering in 2014 when the production company I was attached to asked me to write my best ad pitch for Apple, who I despised. I wrote the most sarcastic, hateful parody of an Apple commercial I could.

And then they bought it, and it was the most money I've ever earned.

Why separate art from the artist? It's way more interesting to know the person who made the piece, good and bad.

Their values are represented in their work either way. Knowing either inoculates you against the negative so you can enjoy safely, or reveals motivations you wouldn't think of otherwise

The most exhausting thing about being a leftist is living in the liberal eternal present. The past is anecdote, not data.

No liberal pundit is ever checked on their record, on predictions from a few years ago, no matter how wrong. When they are wrong, it's only taken as proof their job is hard.

No-spoiler Citizen Sleeper 2 review: It feels like the writers only have second-hand experience of people.

The characters are good and interesting, but they never talk to each other - instead taking turns to soliloquy at the player. Without dialogue, just monologue, there aren't any relationships.
