Game dev currently working on "Valley of Guilt" a 90s era styled, point and click, FMV, horror game.

Doing some FMV testing with stock green screen footage.
I think it really helps dial in on the 90's graphics vibe!

As a kid, I never noticed the discrepancy of Dark Cloud on the cover of Shivers 2 vs how he actually appears in game lolol

I was doing some research and realized that Sierra had a run of absolute banger covers for their horror games during the 90s

I'm moving faster on 'Valley of Guilt' dev because I recently accepted that the original plan was significantly over-scoped.

Such as, the inclusion of a fully working Microsoft Encarta Mind Maze homage. (This did survive the cut though.)

As-is, I think I've already got like 3-4 hours of gameplay.

It wouldn't really be a 'corpsepile' game, if I didn't have you at least briefly explore a suburban house.

And no.
It's not HQ_Residential_House.

I finally found this old clip!
I'm simulating screen tear in my 90's point and click horror game, mainly to replicate the aesthetics of that era.

But also, like, to do other stuff too.

There's a 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 in my game where you have to search through a pile of trash bags, looking for a key item.

It is driven purely by RNG.

No. I won't be changing it.

I figure oversharing on cool visuals from my game is really only a problem if said game ever finally releases.
Sort of a "win-win" there then.

(and there's still a bunch of stuff I'm going to keep under wraps permanently)

My attempt at making my 90s FMV point and click game "period authentic" extends beyond just visual aesthetics. As far as I know, I'm one of few people who are intentionally reducing frames and also deliberately adding in screen tear lol.

(Most likely will let players tweak this for accessibility)
