I tried to #makeaterriblecomicday2024 but instead I made a perfect comic, the finest and best comic in the world, I will be awaiting my MacArthur Foundation Grant, I would like it in the form of a giant novelty check.
an excellent six panel comic. in panel one, two shape people sit together at a bistro-style table set enjoying glasses of lemonade or perhaps iced tea, and shape person two says "if this isn't nice, i don't know what is". in panel two we zoom on shape person one and he smiles blankly. in panel three we remain zoomed as shape person one begins to scowl. in panel four shape person one's eyebrows arch and his mouth opens to reveal slavering sharp fangly teeth in an aggressive grimace. in panel five shape person one's whole head expands and his features distort, his eyes become demonic vortices as his mouthful of slavering sharp fangs opens threateningly. in panel six shape person one's face continues distorting in the same manner and he has dropped his glass of whatever it was, meanwhile shape person two seems none too pleased and declares "well if you're going to be like that you can get the fuck off my porch"

A poster for Phantom Of The Paradise from 1974, written and directed by Brian DePalma, words and music by Paul Williams (who stars as villain Swan), a disco-fried rock opera mash-up of Phantom Of The Opera, Faust, Picture Of Dorian Grey, and a lot of shady in-jokes about early 1970s pop music which only really hold up if you put yourself in exactly the mind-set of Paul Williams in 1974. Paul Williams later co-wrote the songs for The Muppet Movie (including Rainbow Connection, which lost an Academy Award for Best Original Song (he already had one from A Star Is Born, it's fine)) and a lot of other things I care less about but are admittedly pretty impressive.

I've been going back into the other room periodically to try to catch my camera-averse cat less aggressively curling into herself to avoid being photographed and woke her up, then asked nicely if she could look at me for a better picture and she INSTANTLY started licking her crotch (not pictured).

Fernandes Nomad Bass, same bean body style and 24 inch scale length as guitar version and also with built-in amp, uses a piezoelectric undersaddle pickup as used in acoustic-electric bass guitars, hence the acoustic style bridge. Mine is fitted with nylon tape-wound strings in more conventional string gauge but the official Fernandes strings are extremely heavy to compensate for the ultra-short scale.

Working my way through my recent acquisition of cassettes I impulse bought from a guy in Indonesia to get a bulk shipping discount and pleased to say cassette copy of Gorillaz 2001 debut album is in tip-top condition, and a fine listen indeed.

Bought some late cassette releases that came from Indonesia, because the format hung around longer there, and the guy included as a surprise free bonus this (lousy) Maroon 5 album from 2004. I know it to be crap because I listened to it in 2004...on CD...and now I have two of it I guess.

ON ONE OF MY FIRST days at The New York Times, I went to an orientation with more than a dozen other new hires. We had to do an icebreaker: Pick a Starburst out of a jar and then answer a question. My Starburst was pink, I believe, and so I had to answer the pink prompt, which had me respond whether I thought Marcellus Wallace looked like a bitch. So I blurted out, "What?" and considered the ice broken. Samuel L. Jackson trained his gun on me and shouted "SAY WHAT AGAIN!" People started snapping their fingers in acclamation.
