I see a lot of people recommending Snyder's 'On Tyranny' as a tool for understanding our present moment and....I can't agree at all. Here's my Goodreads review...

This was always my own personal favourite Joyce Carol Oates burn - of Curtis Yarvin and his fellows.

I know it shouldn't bother me, but why would you use this ugly, shitty AI slop when there are numerous paintings depicting the *actual* battle? If you're so passionate about our vaunted traditions why not use eg the Turner painting?

Late to watching it but this is absolutely painful. Shallow characterisation, absurd anime battle-scenes, Marvel dialogue. It's made worse by its constant attempts to oay homage to the Jackson films and appropriate their motifs - a stark reminder that you could be watching something much better.

If you want the punk version of this, Leicester Anarchist Federation used to claom that Peter Kropotkin had pissed in a specific toilet in the pub they met in.

Even though it has dipped since 2023, there's a very obvious trend, and it is not towards *less* antisemitism...

A perfect distillation of AI use: it can save you time, but it alienates you completely from the intended outcome. Sure, you can chat to twelve people with minimal effort but you won't make a connection with any of them - just as you can generate 100 mediocre essays and understand nothing.

Truly, German is the lego-bricks of languages

The thing about these masculinity grifters is the comical disconnect between rhetoric and reality. The "legacy" will end up being a drop shipping business with a squarespace website or something. Not exactly Charlemagne.

Watched this tonight. Timely, warm, and interested in real people, real conversations and real lives. It also explores some of the real friction of being trans in America without flinching.

Our D&D group is having a crack at Daggerheart tonight and I have to say I really dig these "Player Principles and Best Practices" as a starting point for new players understanding what the game is 'about'.

Its so funny how often she'll be like "...then a terrible thing happened where Facebook colluded with an authoritarian regime, and I, the person principally responsible, was shocked and horrified by the culmination of my months of work towards this exact outcome."

Four hours of a cartoon skull talking shit about Steven Pinker? Clear my schedule.

Why on earth would you try to litigate these arguments in public?

Turned up for a brutal leg day only to realise I dont have my headphones. I dont know what's worse - listening to the gym's music or hearing the grunting I do on a big lift. Send thoughts and prayers please

The incompetence from "Your Party" is actually breath-taking. Sultana and Corbyn are now openly issuing contradictory public statements; there's a membership portal that is apparently illegitimate (?), and the incoming conference remains a chaotic mess of random lottery.

This last paragraph really highlights how many Reform voters seem to not have the faintest idea of what Reform's policy platform actually is.
