I've been playing around with #xmpp, so I set up a group chat where XMPP and fediverse nerds can live chat the #SuperBowl on Sunday.

If you've been thinking about trying XMPP this might be your excuse. If you couldn't care less about the Superbowl, I get that too. (I may have a conflict, myself […]

Seattle's going to win this by just carefully doing the work and knocking out the occasional field goal.

Apologies for the self-boost (I try to be sparing about this) but here's a reminder that there's an #xmpp chat room for discussing the US superbowl (including ads & halftime show). There are a few of us there, so if this is your thing […]

The Slate EV is super interesting. I am right smack in the middle of their target market I guess.

✅ Simple, modular, utilitarian design
✅ Simple manufacturing process
✅ Bypasses the local dealership model
✅ Right to repair ethos
✅ Reasonable price

I'm seriously considering a reservation ($50) […]

Got an email from our veterenarian announcing "Maren, our new AI powered receptionist". Goes to great lengths to say this is to support front-desk staff and not replace them. I already detest voice interpreting answering services, so we'll see.

The Stripe (payments) admin interface is CRAZY slow in Librewolf and Vivaldi. Tens of seconds to render a page. Tens of seconds between click and visible response in the UI. (Reddit says: "This is a problem in Firefox. Works well in Chrome on a new PC".) Well, 🖕

I only have this problem with […]

I was at home when I read this piece (thankfully) and had the same reaction. It's such a powerful story.
"The Zersetzung is working. He is taking himself apart, piece by piece, and replacing the parts with synthetic fillers because the world has told him his own parts are defective."

"The Colonization of Confidence" by Robert Kingett is one of the best pieces of writing about "AI" I have ever seen […]

It's always a fun surprise to see two of my connections chatting when I know them both but would not expect in a million years they'd know each other. Gems of the fediverse.

#recoll is a local file indexing and search powertool. It provides plenty of options for configuration (e.g., includes, excludes, filters, update and rebuild index) and a nice snappy interface.

First exhibit in the Royal Signals museum: a model of a 6-bit clacks.

The one at Blandford was part of an Admiralty chain between Plymouth and Whitehall, operating in the first half of the C19th and superseded by the electric telegraph. There was also a branch to Portsmouth.
