I’ve noticed this with The Sopranos too. There’s a whole audience of more media literate people who see Tony Soprano as an awful person who tortures himself every day of his life, and the rest who wish they too had a hitman.

You can buy puts, but I wouldn’t recommend it because the window of time for massive payoffs is tiny.

But even for them, it can veer too far into the “For Adults” end when what many of them are actually looking for is a show that has mature content, but is still at an 8th grade reading level. Steven Universe but with blood and swearing.

It’s fascinating because the show is clearly for adults, but it has a very juvenile feel to it. Which is fine, because is inspired mostly by all ages media like Disney Renaissance films, but it definitely attracts people who have wanted “Kids’ Shows For Adults” for a couple decades now.

I’ve had a couple people say “my kids love this show“ and I’m thinking “you let your kids watch it?!”

Not trying to be prudish either, but these are the type of people who wouldn’t let their kids watch Ren and Stimpy now.
