The US had a $1.8 trillion federal budget deficit in FY 2024. We can’t afford to buy any territory, and we actually can’t afford a military action either. So all we can do is just talk, and Trump can hope for action through threat. That’s about all that can be done.

Yes, we need to fund a sustained effort to build comprehensive resilience, and states/localities must step up especially on rules that can help limit damage and impact.
