Talking this over a bit more and I mean the biggest thing that I want to prevent is people with dementia from running for elected office

We have an existing bus to the airport, it doesn't have great span and requires a transfer, so that the whole region can access the airport but they're starting to consider a whole BRT corridor on the freeway that's generally kind of bad, but gives my city a one seat ride to the airport.

Transit in a region isn't something that can turn good overnight or with a single investment. It requires a network before people can trust it. It requires a network before people build a life around it. In order to build a big enough network to be compelling, it will involve a lot of buses.

I eventually figured this out after getting a different card. In other news apparently Ubuntu decided networking wasn't complicated enough on Linux and added a wrapper called NetPlan 🥲

I mean there is, but they have dedicated funding and much more flexibility in raising their own funds, so it doesn't make the news.

I mean, I think a lot of electeds see transit as a noble charity. Both in its construction and operation. I see few municipal electeds, truly saying transit is bad but I see plenty who don't understand it and many who brag about it as a job program.

The biggest problems facing transit today are not technological, or even financial, they're political.

We could make most transit systems in the US significantly better if our electeds only didn't see them as a charitable overlay on auto oriented development and instead a useful form of mobility.

It's not the most interesting video, they never got beyond a few test markets, but Enron was actually a pretty significant pioneer in cloud computing. Unfortunately they also booked a lot more profit in cloud computing than they ever made 😅

I sometimes have complicated feelings on the ripping out of the streetcar in some places, since a mixed traffic streetcar stuck in traffic is worse in some ways than a bus stuck in traffic and many jurisdictions didn't see it practical to allocate road space to transit at the time.

Definitely, when I boothed for "Sound Transit 4" as part of Seattle Subway, we wanted it to be a city of Seattle measure because ST2 and ST3 leave Seattle behind in a lot of ways. There's no Ballard UW Line or Aurora or any of the other very busy routes.

I just realized there's a demo of it from 2001 on YouTube

Not satire 😅 Blockbuster multiple times tried to enter the streaming market, once with Enron and then again later by themselves

I think that many people only experienced traffic, even before '79, if you look at old (1920s) footage it's just traffic but I think that suburbs have gotten denser and so people more often feel dependent on cars while in highway congestion

Why yes, the biggest city in the county has no effect on how the county operates transit service in the county.
