I hadn't really written any rust before this year, nothing but the barest of learning stuff, but suddenly it's nearly all I've written over the past 4 months (this is the largest repo but there's another one that's newer / smaller)

I really did not expect to enjoy it this much 😅

there's little reason to believe that technological growth is or will remain exponential in the sense that the s1ngular!ty/A! prognosticators think, or that things won't regress significantly

In human terms, most ethical... There is no strength to be gained from hurting one another. Only weakness."

the trouble with working weird hours is you drop a really cool PR and there's no one around to excitedly show it off to

if your text editor doesn't come with an extension language it's DOA. it's the community that keeps text editors useful, one group or company can't match the velocity or meet the needs of everyone

why don't most http servers support overall request timeouts? every service with an api needs this for their users and to protect their infrastructure but no one seems to do it, they all only have timeouts for specific operations

people often lean on AI most when they lack expertise but lacking expertise makes you least able to find the inaccuracies in what AI says. Gell-Mann amnesia effect kicks in and we're more likely to accept that info uncritically en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gell-Ma...

Probably the only poem I memorized:

"Love is contraband in Hell, cause love is an acid that eats away bars. But you, me, and tomorrow hold hands and make vows that struggle will multiply. The hacksaw has two blades. The shotgun has two barrels. We are pregnant with freedom. We are a conspiracy."

why do AI addicts act like you're being bigoted for demanding they take responsibility for writing and operating the code they put their name on, the writing they use to influence others.

the lack of self awareness is wild, the motivated reasoning just to not let go of feeling like an architect

it's bizarre to me that people feel strong connections to things, objects, and I wish it didn't feel that way. it makes me feel like an alien

software artifacts are part of what's produced from building software, but learning and wisdom come from doing, the writing of it, and if you remove that you diminish those benefits as well. if you diminish those while producing even more code then you'll feel its absence all the more acutely #ai

The New York Times has the blood of children on its hands. It's abusive, horrifying, and disgusting how much they have contributed to the banning of transgender healthcare for children. 26 states now, more than half. May they reap what they sow, and all their cruelty be turned back on them tenfold

I'll just say it: putting up PRs that are wholly AI generated is anti-social. at a minimum you need to put in more review time and effort than your reviewers do for your AI-generated PRs -- you must make them *intentional*
