Motherhood as a function of white supremacy. It's something I've been thinking about a lot recently, the way in which white women are traditionally established in positions of "care" in order to surveill and disrupt "undesirable" families. The social worker, the nurse, the missionary. 🧵
At my former workplace, some of the white female colleagues, when they saw Israel's genocide of Palestinians, didn't feel any empathy for Palestinians. Instead, when Pro Palestine colleagues complained about so many children being murdered, they kept talking about wanting to "adopt" the children.

once i name a character, whether that’s in a short story or a tossed MS etc, i can’t use that name again
it’s like naming them has given them a life that can’t be replicated, even if the story goes nowhere
