Fully expected this to say something along the lines of “going to eat a lot of peaches.”

Math department party and we do a gift exchange. Gifts can get stolen twice before they’re frozen.

First gift to get frozen (and before the coffee advent calendar)…

@effinbirds.com

(Department chair said she can’t have the calendar in her classroom. 10 commandments yes. Effin birds no.)

Last night I participated in my first chunder (beer mile) in over 15 years. I took part in the NA division - milk.

Drink a pint, run a lap. x4.

(A huge thank you to the lunch ladies for assisting with the milk cartons.)

The public track at Memorial Park was amazing. First time there.

Time 9:49.

Nope. Can’t make me.

I will never say anything bad about Tom Baker.

Taco Bell 50k today.

That’s the most miserable I’ve ever been during a running event but at the same time - the most fun I’ve ever had while being miserable. The community was amazing. So many great people out there.

Happy Mushroom Monday.

Today’s walk was back in Texas and came across this one…

Driving home solo* from Denver and made it to Liberal, Kansas in time to bowl four games at Billy’s Ayr Lanes.

14 of the 16 lanes were being used when I got there. Great to see so many people bowling on a late Saturday night.

*family flew back to Michigan to eek out a few more weeks of not Texas.

All kinds of gratitude today.

I was fortunate enough to make it to the top of Mount Elbert with two minutes to spare and was able to watch the sun rise from the top of Colorado.

Ran the Waugoshance 50k today. Beautiful course and all the rain just added to the beauty.

Incredibly grateful for my family for understanding and supporting this running thing of mine.

Also thankful that my body and mind are still in a position to do this stuff.

I’ve found myself in the northern Michigan woods with two Houston birder friends. They were in the area and I was in the area so we met up in an attempt to find an American Goshawk. Would be a lifer for me.

Plenty of listening to it but still haven’t seen it.

Good morning. Just came across these on a northern Michigan walk in the woods.

The trail has a lot of exposed roots so I’ve been looking at the ground more than usual. And hello…

Found one while clearing ice storm damage in the woods at my in-laws.

Happy Mushroom Monday.

Just took a quiz on some safety videos for teaching and one of the answers for a question on pressure points referred to the bikini line…

So I turned the volume up.

Jonny Fritz is a treasure.

Learned a new combination of words last night.

supracondylar humerus fracture

Oldest (6) fell off a tree that’s well positioned as a balance beam.

Saw @themountaingoats.bsky.social picture of his peach walnut bread and was motivated.

Dolores Casella’s books have just arrived.

I feel these will be with me for a while.

Hiked Driskill Mountain with the family today and came across these… not sure what they are, I’ve pretty much devoted all of my identification skills to birds, but by golly, finally found some to share with @lgtrombatore.bsky.social

Happy almost mushroom Monday.

Road-tripping to Michigan.

Today’s highlight: Driskill Mountain. Highest point (mountain!) in Louisiana.

Start the drive to Michigan (from Texas) on Sunday with the family. As usual, we’ll be taking a mostly new route.

But without a GPS or cellular device - how will we ever do it?

To be fair - we will have an iPod touch on hand but that’s more for music and bird calls.

Okay. Seriously. The Current is brightening my day. The Twin Cities have always held a special place in my heart and Hippo Campus adds greatly to the St Paul joy.

Got back from my run to this on The Current. Going to be an 11 kind of day and I’m digging it.
May 15, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Yep. Keeping the volume knob at 11.
