I lived beside it and we regularly had army in the garden.
My grandparents lived beside the barracks and were out of their houses more than in sometimes. At a certain time in life you're too young to know life here was different than anywhere else.

Strangely enough it was the normal things we clung to. Growing up in the 70s/80s I look at a childhood that was very happy and patents that protected me from the worst of what was going on. I was a child

Children and young people always think that they have it hard, thats what being immature means.

People often say children are resilient without taking into account that whilst you might not know you're in a high stress situation, your nervous system certainly does. There's a world of difference between sharing a bathroom and bombs, shootings and incidents happening around you day & daily.

I felt so sad for the families and us all tonight. How different it all could have been and how half a century later it's ripples still spread.
We hadn't a clue we were growing up in mayhem until it stopped. Our parents did so much to shield us from the horrors.
