My first ever diorama base for a model that I have painted! 🥹❤️ The glittery rocks are real & natural - they are from the shores of a remote reservoir lake in the Canadian Rockies. Fake grass tufts plus yellow & purple flowers hopefully turn this base into a lovely mini meadow.❤️

Ever since I stupidly broke my nano Fluval Marine light one side of my tank has been in actinic shadow (where my fish have been hiding from imaginary seabirds,) while the other has been growing hair algae & cyanobacteria prolifically due to the freshwater light over it. WELL, I have ordered a new 💡!

Condor, noble gelding steed of protagonist Karigan G'ladheon from Kristen Britain's fantastic Green Rider series.❤️ I might've made him slightly more handsome than he's supposed to be, since he's described as a leggy, gawky boy, but I remembered to draw some grass hanging out of his mouth. 😅

I was so scared that she died last night that I didn't even announce that I got her but she reappeared this morning, sooo:

Meet Ribbon! She's a blue streak cleaner wrasse, & she's Purrling Reef's new doctor on staff. So far my existing six line wrasse Tangelo is ignoring her, which is a big relief!

That horrid moment when you smell some awful stench not of your own personal creation, & you abruptly comprehend that yes, your incessantly purring, happy bundle of fuzzy cat who's snuggled up all cute right up beside you really just deal out one potent silent but violent.😵‍💫

Watched Snake Discovery's latest rescue video a few minutes ago & my mind is still boggled over how huge adult ball pythons are compared to my puny baby boa. I'm pretty sure Churro's entire body could fit just inside of a ball python's chonky tail. 😂

(I saw his lil' pupils move!!🥹❤️)
November 15, 2025 at 5:36 AM
The reptile shop's advice has already paid off! 🥹❤️ Churro can now climb closer to his heat lamp sun (which now sports a stronger bulb!) if he feels like it & I walked in to see him doing just that!❤️❤️ (His new thermometer/hygrometer also finally arrived today, yay!)

Casper is home!!! His vet care actually came in under my budget, amazingly, & now he gets to eat fish goop morning & night until his meds run out (shhhh, don't tell him about the medication mixed in...)

TW: the last photo is a picture of his wounded paw. 🥹 Poor lil' man!
November 14, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Thanks to my dad, Casper's at the vet today! 🥹 Looks like Casper injured a claw & got himself an infected toe, so the doc is giving him anti-inflammatories, fluids, & antibiotics. ❤️🐾

(Sorry for that dark turn...)

In any case, here's a picture from the last time that I properly handled Churro, with the adorable little dude exploring my dress pocket. He's such a brave & curious little snake usually! ❤️

...a behaviour which rosy boas share with ball pythons where they clump themselves into a ball with their head protected in its centre by their coils. It means that they're terrified; I terrified my poor baby snake. Accident or not, I feel awful about it & I promptly tucked him back in his den. 😵‍💫

"Also your carer might experience traumatic flashbacks from past experiences caring for loved ones." (My dad & I thought about our years looking after my dear late mom a lot today.)

This has been exhausted rambling; thank you for reading, here is what I wake up to whenever my puny bladder wakes me.

Keplar spent the entire evening being cute in my lap then proceeded to look just as cute after I tucked him in with a blanket after I got up. He kept watching me, willing me to return to sitting with him, but alas I betrayed him to go slather minty floride gunk all over my teeth.🥺 Poor boy!!

(Not today, I planted the cactus on Monday!)

I got the $50 cactus on clearance for $2! Its exact species/flower colour is unknown... literally the only info that the nursery had on it was that it was an Opuntia... which isn't really informative at all when ALL* cold hardy cacti are Opuntia.

I got got my internal anti-virus updates yesterday for influenza & covid. I'm sleepy & stiff today & trying to force myself to take a proper day off but so far I am failing utterly at that. 🫠

Also my apple tree looks AMAZING this year in its fall splendour & I planted a hardy cactus finally!

More video of the worm! (The tweezers used in this video have since been dipped in isopropyl alcohol.😅)

Video of this pretty unwanted interloper!
November 2, 2025 at 7:09 PM
Hey biology buddies! ❤️ Any idea if this bristleworm that I just found in my marine aquarium's internal filter is actually a fireworm? I found a couple of these back when I was cleaning substrate from the previous iteration of my aquarium & I'm wondering if this thing might've eaten some MIA fish!

🎃🎼Trick or treat, smell our paws, give us something gross to eat!🎶🐾

Or, you know, just a bunch of ear scritches & tummy rubbins.

(Keplar & Casper got meat goop & their favourite crunchy treats for their trick or treating efforts, which was mostly just a bunch of happy meowing & purring.)

I haven't drawn anything so far for Halloween this year & I may not have time today so here's last year's piece again! 😅 Happy Halloween wonderful people! ❤️❤️❤️🎃🍁 Much love and peace to you!!❤️❤️❤️

Also you can roast the seeds for snackage! We usually spread ours out on a cookie sheet then sprinkle them with salt before putting them in the oven for I-don't-actually-remember-how-long-but-at-least-half-an-hour at about 400°F. (I check on them periodically until they are crunchy.)

To make pumpkin purée (which can be frozen for later use yay,) cut off the outer rind of your pumpkin's flesh then cut into chunks; put into a pot with water & nothing else; BOIL! until soft 'n mushy. Let cool then using a strainer, seperate pumpkin mush from juice into different containers.

BEHOLD!! I have processed my Jack O'Lantern's byproducts! From top to bottom, left to right in my first photo:
- bowl o' pumpkin guts - shall be garden mulch!
- Pumpkin purée for the making of pie & adding to pasta sauce for more fibre/nutrition.
- Pumpkin juice!
- Pumpkin seeds - for roasting!❤️

WITNESS! FOR I HAVE CARVED A PUMPKIN FRIEND! (And it was more tiring than usual 'cus this thing had walls like 4" thick so I needed my dad's help to even get into it. 😂 Lesson learned: always pick a proper pumpkin from a variety that was bred to be carvable!)

I love this goofy thing though.❤️🎃
