The end result of hours of fiddling and cleaning heads, pinch rollers, potentiometers, replacing dead transistors. The sound is incredible. Hope Bluesky doesn't garble up the audio with compression.

I did it! I made my own mix tape on the reel to reel with the new old stock Sony tape. Recorded at 7 1/2 inches per second and it sounds absolutely amazing. It took some time but it was so much fun. It's such a satisfyingly tangible experience. I'm hooked.

Working again on the Akai GX-G55 reel to reel today. Replaced all the 2SC458 transistors with modern KSC1845 transistors and the left channel has come back to life! Stereo sound is crystal clear with no noise whatsoever. Those 458s were wreaking havoc on the pre amp. Probably why it was in the trash

Had a weird dream last night that there was going to be a Coopertom movie. All these film people were dragging me all over the place and telling me all this random stuff but they weren't actually filming anything. Next thing I know I'm at the film premiere.

Made a replacement wood side panel for the reel to reel. The original particle board on the left side was totally destroyed. It's crazy I couldn't find any good contact paper locally so I had to order some online and should be here tomorrow.

So I bought a UK version of movie from a seller in California assuming it was already in the US. I finally got the movie weeks later. From the look of the packaging, the seller ordered it from the UK to themselves in CA, then shipped if from CA to NJ. Oh and it reeks of perfume. Really bizarre.

So I have been messing with this reel to reel all afternoon. Pots and heads are clean now but I can't get the left channel to sound any better. I did some research and the Akai GX-255 uses 2sc458 transistors which are notorious for going bad and causing the exact issues I'm having.

All cleaned up! Ahhh I friggin love this thing! Still can't believe I got this out of the garbage. I'm going to need to make new wood sides for it. The particle board is falling apart but everything else on the unit is really nice.

Oh man!!!! Amazing trash find today!!!! I've always wanted a reel to reel but they're always way too expensive. It's going to need some work but I think it's going to be a fun project.

Watched To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) tonight. Never saw it before. It is sooooo 80s and amazing. The whole movie feels like a GTA V mission. Can definitely tell this inspired the game.

Today was probably the first really cold day this season. I'm thinking about planning a trip down to Florida after Christmas and doing some couch surfing so I'm not freezing my ass off.

Tonight on the livestream I was asked if I ever watched Shinbone Alley. Ugh, its a cat movie so I really really want to like it but its just so yuck. I don't know.
