Here is the full 2024 season including playoffs - same trend, if not more pronounced. Success vs. man-to-man can be the key difference maker in the most important area of the field.

Why do we care so much about tight end success vs. man-to-man coverage?

Since more teams play Cover 0 or Cover 1 in goal-to-go situations, a disproportionate number of TE touchdowns are scored vs. man coverage.

The left chart shows TE man vs. zone receptions, right shows TDs.

I can pinpoint the exact moment I jinxed Pete and I in this league last year, it was about noon on October 29th

Dont'e Thornton Jr, LV

He's the only true split end on a team with a bunch of slot/flankers. And that could see him start for LV this season - he's listed there on early depth charts. At 6'5", his 4.3 40 gives him a top percentile speed score per @rotounderworld.

This draft guide has a mindboggling amount of work from myself and others, at every position. Even if you don't take "The Advice" there are objective strategies and information to help you. You will walk away BETTER at fantasy and a smarter football fan.

My guy @georgekassapis.bsky.social hooked it up with some cards at football’s greatest position, nothing but good vibes at #SFB15 Boston this year!

Kenneth Walker himself forced 4.18 missed tackles per game last year which was 2nd only to James Conner. If you can get him through the box with the concepts that Klint Kubiak, his father, Rick Dennison, and Kyle Shanahan perfected, good things can happen.

⬇️

Last year Kubiak's offense saw Alvin Kamara lead all RBs in targets per game (Kenneth Walker was 3rd). Two years in a row Kubiak's RBs (Kamara, CMC) have been top 3 in WR routes per game (along with De'Vone Achan & Bijan). As we mentioned, SF and MIA run a similar scheme.

The SEA O-line had arguably the worst continuity with Connor Williams even retiring mid-season. Bringing in Rick Dennison and O-line coach John Benton should help turn things around. 1st round rookie Grey Zabel has incredible burst for pulling and getting to the 2nd level.

Here Kubiak has 2 TEs and a fullback so the Giants cover every gap with 6 guys on the line of scrimmage. Kubiak has both TEs block down but this time the tackle pulls with the fullback leading to get an advantage - another deviation from his typical zone blocking.

⬇️

When teams combat the zone run by overloading the line of scrimmage, Kubiak will mix in gap concepts. Here, he has the TE and OT crash down with a guard pulling to kick out the wide man. C Erik McCoy and LG Lucas Patrick were inactive for this game - Kamara had 112 rush yards.

Kubiak loves using pre-snap movement/motion to create a numbers advantage for his zone run looks. The covered linemen handle their matchups and the uncovered guys, including the FB and TE, move to the next level. Kamara finds the initial hole and cutback lane easily here.

First off, Klint Kubiak loves his fullbacks and blocking tight ends. I don't need to explain why using AJ Barner as an inline blocking TE or the 270-pound rookie Robbie Ouzts is good for the RB. We see it in SF and MIA in similar schemes. You or I could run behind this guy.

Let's take a little peek into the scheme Klint Kubiak is bringing to the Seattle Seahawks and why it is so good for Kenneth Walker.
