Deer should run off. They should not turn and face you with a “oh so you wanna go? Here? In front of everyone?” body language. Then again, my SHIH TZU/CHI/JACK MIX shouldn’t be trying to squabble up with every golden retriever and ungulate he sees.

This dog confuses me sometimes. He has NO small prey drive like a terrier. He likes splashing in the creek and/or mud. He loves barking at big dogs, fast cars, children and runners. He’s not really interested in people unless they have snacks.

In today’s story you need to know that I take Benny (pictured) to a very fancy town’s dog park. If I go in the afternoon, I walk with the Kathys, who all have little dogs. You should also know that the big gossip has been that someone dumped a deer carcass in the dog park.

I appreciate Hugh perfecting the scream of a newborn and then coming up right to my head and screaming at me in the morning, at the screen door when he wants me to let him out (he is an indoor cat) and then he screams at me at 1, 3, and 5pm for his British Edwardian Lord/Hobbit eating schedule.
