To be rational you have to examine ideas you don’t agree with. I said these are ‘possible’ hypotheses not my ideas. Otherwise the echo chamber beckons! You need to give me your hypotheses. A discussion needs input from both sides. Sorry if you just want to be negative I’m giving up the convo.

Also remember I said ideas, not assumptions or reasons.

No, they are hypotheses to try out and test. I don’t pretend to know without doing serious research and social science is notoriously difficult to prove. Tell me if you have any theories of your own as to why, I’d be interested.

Numerous ideas of why — a few PhDs would help as we are speculating via our own value judgements. Lack of information +critical thinking education/ untruths by people for personal gain/interference from abroad/ nostalgia for the past and on and on. Nobody knows or could it isn’t science or provable

I wouldn’t be in a conversation with you if I didn’t think we understood each other.
After 8 years of lived experience and careful analysis I have concluded that Brexit was an act of self harm by the UK. Lives are poorer in financial, cultural and reputational terms any gains are solely theoretical

I did not say they were ‘incapable’ of rational thought just that their views/ actions are irrational - which I stand by. OK, my view that Brexit was irrational is a judgement on my part but that doesn’t imply that those who support it are disabled. We will have to agree to differ!

Not at all. Being irrational isn’t an incapacity, as far as I know, or a disability. That’s like saying that choosing not to open your umbrella in the rain if you don’t want to get wet is. The question is why you choose to do it.

Explain, please, genuinely don’t understand.

Looks like the irrational ones, you know the sovereignty nerds, still hold sway.

Lovely eye makeup too.

A challenge! Could you suggest somewhere for me in Europe in late October, please? I would like warm, interesting, historical, good food and a town to wander. Perhaps French or Italian (my favourites) or somewhere to get me out of my rut. Of course I’m being presumptuous so feel free to ignore me!
August 27, 2024 at 9:15 PM
True, but I try to read away from my ‘type’. It’s more interesting and energising. Do you think — not a hypothesis just occurred to me— that authors and their readers tend to have common traits? I mean such as attitudes, values or life agendas?
August 27, 2024 at 3:24 PM
Agreed nobody expects to like everything they read or needs to feedback. But are books created for target audiences or because the writer feels impelled to write them?
