"The other day I went to the local pharmacy for my flu and COVID-19 shots, which are free to all B.C. residents. I asked the pharmacist about the vaccination for respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. I learned that it would cost me about $300..."

"The plants, dead wood and soil in the daycare centre have all been specially selected for their rich micro-biodiversity. They have also dug up and imported a giant live carpet of forest floor..."

"There is the outer layer – the more familiar vision of biodiversity, made up of soil, water, plants, animals and microbial life, that lives in the forest, playground (or any other environment). And then there is the inner layer: the biodiversity that lives within..."

"The urban data kept telling them the same thing: the most significant impact on the distribution of plants was not elevation, proximity to water bodies, being close to rural areas or soil type. It was the wealth of people living nearby."

Musk wants to be paid a trillion dollars for building a robot army? Of course he does, he's twelve.

Straight out of his twelve-year-old brain: "It’s just, if we build this robot army, do I have at least a strong influence over that robot army ... That’s what it comes down to ... don’t feel comfortable wielding that robot army if I don’t have at least a strong influence."

It has always been necessary to engage critically with mainstream US media. Now, however, we have entered a new era where outlets like NPR, the AP, and others, are repeating what the Trump regime says but not following up to point out they are lying. Extremely bad development.

If you want to take away the wonder of living from any other living thing, all I can think is that you do not yourself truly appreciate what a wonder it is to be alive, to exist and experience the universe. Otherwise you could never want to take that away from anyone.

I will never understand how anyone ever thinks it's OK to kill. As long as I can remember I've thought it was the most horrific thing. Inherently terrible. Irredeemable. As wrong as anything can be. Acting to end other lives is fundamentally incompatible with the point of living.

Replies on other social media to posts of Sotomayor's dissent just burn with ruthless and horrible brutality: "why don't they use a firing squad" - "it's painless" - there's a "more humane" way to do it... All the same things people think about killing animals. I will just never understand people.
