Am I wrong in my assumptions? Are they wrong for assuming something is YA due to teen protagonists? Advice from anyone in the know would be greatly appreciated. 3/3

I always assumed YA could not have swearing and heavy violence (which my stories tend to have). My film background looked at it like 'is this PG-13 or R-rated?' Yet it seems the publishing world sees teen characters and automatically makes the distinction it's YA. 2/3

Totally. I think King’s point is the ideas that stick with you are more valuable than any you forget.

However, I also believe it never hurts to dig through old notes. Time can help weed out the less valuable ideas.

2. Structure encourages creativity.

Many of you may have heard that structure helps committing to writing, but structure also helps fuel the creative process! Bypassing thoughts of planning your day will free you up to think creatively and open new realms you may not have reached otherwise.

1. Write down all your ideas!

The wonderful thing I've experienced myself around this is I may write something down and not feel inspired to follow through, but because I've written it down, I'll rediscover that idea later and see a spark there that pulls me forward.
