There's a huge difference between being allowed to say something online and actively harassing and threatening violence. It's almost as if Hugh doesn't know what he's writing about here.

Agreed. I'm not advocating banning anything. I'm advocating empathy. You expressed frustration at people still hurt by the word queer. I would suggest you aim the frustration at the bigots and bullies. In any case, keep up the good work ❤️

I get that. Of course. The N word was reclaimed but you won't find white folk using it. It sounds weird when straight folk use queer to describe me. But look I'm not policing anything. Each to their own. I'm only saying have empathy. There's a lot of hurt and abuse behind simple words.

I had a straight colleague ask me if I was queer recently and there's no way that couldn't bring me back to so many many years of bullying and unhappiness as a kid.

It's empathy. If you've been traumatised by 'queer' repeatedly used to hurt you as a young kid it's hard to disassociate. That's how it was in the 80s/90s. More recently it's gay. That's not my experience but I can understand fully why that jars. Try to understand other people's lived experiences.

This conversation just shows how wrong it is to have one person decide the running order. Who is he to decide what is or isn't a 'class' song? That is just his opinion and has no place in a competition. It can never be fair when one person has such influence. This isn't melodifestivalen.
