I get the “it’s just the headline” argument and maybe I’m doing TNE a disservice to the actual content of the episode, but it’s just pathetic to come away from a budget with a lead line about her job security like this is an ITV drama.

Is there anything in this budget that’s actually going to help the economy grow though? I would say no. That’s the problem.

Yes, absolutely, that’s obviously what I’m saying. Happy to debate if you want given you clearly think this govt is doing a good job somehow, but bad faith responses like that tells me we’re actually probably better off leaving it here.

Nothing I’ve seen expected to be included in this budget properly addresses the dire fiscal position, nor does it do anything to energise the economy, *or* even really help with the cost of living. It’s a dereliction of duty on all fronts from an uninspiring, visionless govt.

The fundamental root cause of many of Britain’s economic ills stem from the lack of growth and productivity, yet all this govt has done since they took office is repeatedly hit business over and over again yet seem perplexed that the economy remains flat? What did you expect? This is maddening.

Far be it from me to defend this govt, but the three points you mention here in your piece seem unfair to me: aren’t Labour already addressing two of them with the planning legislation and increase in childcare support?
