Delighted to see the Berlin Phil concert of Williams’s music (TWICE) last weekend! Stéphane Denève was a wonder as conductor & the Phil were phenomenal. Denève gave his flowers to Williams, leaving them on the score on the podium. A class act 🥲

Was great to return to Évry University, Paris, last week to present my paper of Georges Delerue’s score to Platoon, discussing tensions between it and Barber’s Adagio for Strings.

Thrilled to have presented at NYU Steinhardt for Music & the Moving Image conference! I resuscitated & updated my MA thesis on the reminiscence motif in Star Wars, and was blown away by the support & warmth of the audience.

#PhDone! Had a wonderful experience during my viva today thanks to Dr Antonio Cascelli, Dr Kylie Jarrett, and my external examiner Dr Emilio Audissino! Sláinte! I am soon to be Dr Power, fulfilling my dream of being a Bond villain and/or Marvel superhero!

However, the university’s decision to close the music department is unjust and abhorrent. A music department is a hub of research, creativity and community. This closure will impact the staff/students of the department and the heart of university life - as these messages attest.

My last in-person class at Oxford Brooke’s today - finishing out the 3rd year’s musicology module with a discussion closely related to my thesis. It’s been a privilege to teach such engaged, excited and inquisitive students; I’ll remember our classes very fondly.
