Hey 👋 As a re-introduction, I'm Connor, a software developer in Seattle.

I work at Knock building notifications tooling for developers. I mostly work with React, TypeScript, and Elixir.

I'm a 3x girl dad and like tinkering on side projects, making games, and playing guitar and piano!
I started climbing again earlier this year, and our girls absolutely love it, so we just built a rock wall at home!

Was a fun weekend project and the inspectors said we did a great job 😂

Hardest part was drilling the ~150 holes per board for the t-nuts.

Been having a ton of fun working on a p5 implementation of particle life.

Focus today was on performance and was able to 10x the number of particles it can render w/o dropping frames.

Going to keep experimenting with behavior and fix some issues like the clustering

Going to be joined by @connorlindsey.dev tomorrow on stream!

Let's see if we can get units and a turn system added to the game engine. 🤞

If you're interested in creative coding or simulations, come read The Nature of Code with us!

I'm setting up a chill book club to read the book and share projects starting in January. DM me for info!

Couldn't agree more. Picking guitar and piano back up after a long break has been nourishing in so many ways. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

It's also been amazing sharing music with our kids. Like every game jam we do, I incorporate a recording of our 5yo on uke/piano into a song
It's never too late to learn an instrument https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2024/12/music-is-good-for-you/680832/

I can attest to the myriad mental, physical, social and spiritual benefits of playing music.

If you thought "I should learn an instrument" you should seriously consider it!

Might revisit this in the future and parameterize everything so it's easy to create N groups, but had fun messing around with it. Starting on a bigger project inspired by Heavy Weapon next 🪖

Neva is another amazing example of games as art.

Gorgeous art and music just like Gris. Also pleasantly surprised by the amount of additional depth to the gameplay.

Been learning about game dev over the last year and wrote up a mini retro (trying to break in the portfolio design). www.connorlindsey.dev/writing/lear...

Had a lot of fun and really excited to build a more substantial 'first' game next (and fingers crossed launch on Steam)!
