underscores - fishmonger (2021)

Each track on this album has something a little different to offer. There is some great experimentation here too which isn’t harsh and unlistenable, but fun and somewhat melodic. This is my kind of weirdness and it’s crammed nicely in 10 tracks.

Nobody heard of me, I’m a new man (to quote Roots Manuva).
Connor with a full bushy beard. He is content in his look, but it’s a tricky thing to keep and honestly, he dislikes hair getting in his mouth and nose. He looks straight at the camera with a slight smile and wears a grey top whilst leaning on a grey patterned cushion. Connor with a short trimmed beard after using a new shaver. He is feeling better about not having rogue hairs everywhere, but doesn’t recognise himself in the mirror. He still wears grey and leans on the same cushion with a slight smile.

Connie Constance - Miss Power (2022)

Connie brings the power to the forefront here on a victory lap of different styles through each track. There are R&B/Poppy anthems and Rock belters, soaring vocals and spoken word tracks. What next?

Last year saw the eventual arrival of GTS’ debut album after their seminal EP in 2019! They delivered a barnstorming rip roar of tracks with their signature charm and dual vocal dynamics.

audiobooks - Astro Tough (2021)

Wonderfully weird and eccentric songs pervade this neatly packaged collection of synthy indie bop bops. Evangeline flies here with her signature strange observations. It is a show of the talent of the Lings.

Take a plunge into Indigo’s dark and twisted depths. She plays a scratching and scraping guitar amongst swell landscapes of production to enhance the blossoming of her burgeoning lyrics.

Alunageorge - Body Music (2013)

Each track here has something to it that reminds me how good the short-lived Alunageorge were. Can we be nostalgic for 12 years ago now? We can be! This is an underrated and unique plethora of delights.

Sky Ferreira - Night Time, My Time (2013)

This may well be the best mainstream pop album of all time. It is dark, gritty, and mysterious. It has catchy moments, but it is a true artistic tour de force. It pulls no punches and knows no boundary.

Stef Chura - Midnight (2019)

Frenetic energy bounds around playfully here with a unique voice pinning it together. It sometimes explodes before being reassembled by Stef’s virtuosic playing. An altogether exhilarating experience when it peaks!

What about this future dream team on BBC Radio 6? Yes, I’m manifesting 🥹

SuperKnova - Superuniverse (2023)

Although this is a short and snappy look into SuperKnova’s universe, it serves as a grand brief insight into its wonder. There is splendour here, but it doesn’t mask the raw edge underpinned by her guitar work.

Patio - Collection (2023)

This New York trio cooked up a splendid post punk flavoured collection of tracks for this sophomore album. Hints of Minutemen and Public Practice blossom amongst a strong setting of unique whimsical spirit amongst the band.

Nourished By Time - Erotic Probiotic 2 (2023)

Everything about this seminal debut album is doused in magnetism and allure. Marcus Brown’s stylistic weirdness and soulfulness permeate. In one song alone you can be bopping in your seat and crying tears of relatability.

A late comer to the 90s guitar band scene and one that introduced a future solo legend. This is more than just a kooky first album for Sophie though, it’s a beguiling and devilishly mysterious underrated gem.

An electrifying collection of uniquely crafted songs that have a strong punk sensibility. There are heartbreaking tales of yearning as well as fun romps through the divine. This album is full of quirk!
