AI filmmaking is peeing. It’s pooping. It’s throwing up. It’s a new kind of liquid coming out. It’s hated by the establishment. It’s what goes in the toilet. It’s wet. It’s what’s in the bathroom.

What LLM boosters promise: a future where AI takes care of menial chores, and you can spend more time with loved ones

What the product actually does: talk to your loved ones for you so that you can focus on your menial chores
Grounds for divorce imo

GenAI? In my open source database tool?

(Arguably, this is one case where it may be of use - business users wanting to analyze their data without having to study SQL or the DB schema - but there's a big chance of creating unoptimized queries. Not to mention the whole resource usage of LLMs thing.)

Spent 3 days at a workshop with basically only academic computer scientists and it is scary how many fundamental democratic rules and concepts are put up for debate constantly. CS won't save us. Not one bit.

First time using Cheat Engine to change values in a game. Also thinking about how the game logic works as I play it. Good mental exercise!

I used to play this free game more than 15 years ago. Picked it up again a few days ago, and now running it at a proper speed. Still fun and surprisingly holds a ton of replay value.

The dev also made a Battle of Yavin game

Feels nice when people in an online group, who live all over the world, meet up. Sadly I probably won't be one of them, since most live in the US, and why would I want to go there?

I don't know what recent technology has actually impressed me. Of course there's a lot of things coming out, but all with terrible social costs

Ever think about how Facebook convinced all the news outlets to pivot to video and then it turned out they were juicing the metrics so it didn't actually work but by that point lots of the media had cut all the resources for text-based news and we're still dealing with the fallout from that now?

I was obsessed with Star Wars when I was 15. I remember seeing The Phantom Menace as a child, but it was an airing of Return of the Jedi on TV that completely sucked me in.

With a pirated copy of After Effects, I learned how to create lightsaber effects and recreated the famous opening crawl.

Went back home to have dinner and the recent BINI concert was streaming on the TV. I'm not really a fan, but my ears perked up when the backing band was being introduced and they were playing Overture 1928 by Dream Theater. You can hear it on the fancam below.

Made some bad decisions last week.

1. Biked to dinner and then to my friend's house with my trifold, reasoning that I could fold it and bring it inside places. While true, the roads in the area were awful and I couldn't see too well in the dark. Then I decided to ride home at 3AM, on empty streets.

Passed through the massive expanse of concrete that is the Bocaue Toll Plaza and noticed the billboards facing in different directions, as if to make sure that at least one of them catches a passerby's eye.

Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place

Caught up with my BS CS blockmates. Some things I noticed:

1. The ones who are still doing software, including myself, aren't really thinking about moving up in their careers At this point it's just a means to make money.

Want to tag someone so hard in this
OpenAI & co have come up with a funny argument for why to accept these externalities: Yes unfortunately there are trade-offs in the short term, they say, but they're necessary to reach so-called AGI; AGI will then help us solve all these problems! So trade offs = worth it. 11/

Now even the past is being poisoned with slop.

Messing with these time capsules of the Internet is even more sickening.

PhysicsForums and the Dead Internet Theory
An exposé no one will read, about the widespread falsification of user posts in PhysicsForums, a scientific community founded in 2001. This is a microcosm of the death of the human-written Internet.
