This is a wonderfully selfless act of leadership which should reverberate around rugby and all sports with concussion risk.
Probably no coincidence Ringrose’s father in law Cliff Beirne was a top maxillofacial surgeon and a huge advocate of player safety in rugby.

Hearing the RFU set to ban jackal below under 16 level soon. Smart if overdue move. Much more still needs to be done to reduce frequency and size of collisions.

For years (circ 2000-20012) there was a concerted attempt by paid sports medics to play down the severity of 2nd impact syndrome. Some even denied its existence. As a result, it remains poorly understood and players die unnecessarily as a result. That is some legacy.

Rugby seemingly still intent on eating itself by chasing growth through click bate “big hits” and emphasis on brutality. Short term marketing gimmicks trump long term strategic thinking yet again. Yawn on.

Said goodbye to this kind, caring, compassionate man today. The unsung voice behind @ProgressiveRug who did so much to champion the cause of rugby players around the world. You will be missed, Tom. But your legacy lives on. Swing low, old son…

Desperately sad news. Thoughts with Tom’s family and all who know him.

Has anyone at the RFU made a public comment since Danny Care’s revelations about their coach Eddie Jones’ methods?
If not, why not? Do they condone the systematic humiliation of staff and players?
Are these the rugby values they stand for or can we collectively do so much better?

Many of us who love rugby to its core and want to see it flourish in the future are seeking ways to depower the sport, champion player welfare and promote safer participation.
This doesn’t suit the macho narrative some wish to sell rugby on but hey, tough. That way has failed.

Tom Curry has been knocked unconscious twice in 7 weeks. So two demonstrable brain injuries in 49 days. He also has previous history. Yet professional rugby has construed a way for it to be ok for him to play for England this Saturday. If he was a boxer, he would be nowhere near a ring.

Just about to read this, having watched the tv series, so much of which resonated with what I’ve observed in corporate sport’s historic efforts to control and ultimately suppress the brain injury narrative.”Exaggerate the positives, trivialise the negatives. Hammer the abuser.”

Hearing some concerning noises about life inside Steve Borthwick’s England camp. “Eddie Jones just without the humour”, one source told me. Now that really is grim.

First tentative steps on here in hope of a more grown up discussion around safer participation and need for improved concussion awareness across sport. Any friends out there?
