okay the belt was slipping. replaced it. it managed to fully extend the tension arms. still wouldn’t play. disassembled again to check alignment. reassembled. won’t even pull the tape out now, won’t eject lol. thinking it is:
A) motor driver ic(s)
B) power regulator circuit
C) flex cable connection

been a few months. initially when i picked this up and popped a tape in, it would grab the tape just fine and pull it up to the head drum, sit there a few seconds, put the tape back, power off.
back tension poles not fully extending. cleaned the mode switch, tested the sensors, regreased. ->

i have convinced myself we are set for a future of gen ai fully replacing “traditional” media consumption in that whatever someone wants to watch, they essentially just “search” it in a prompt bar and get what they want. long form or short form. including full length movies.
