War by Sail rules:
Took me 9 months to research and playtest. My partner thought I was nuts entering in all the stats for like 1200 ships and adding up the points values on a calculator... nowadays I use excel for points values🤣

Some more photos from last game. Next game (this time using the War by Sail rules) will be much more balanced. It's a fairly simple but accurate system. Ships take time to be worn down, and (generally) don't just magically sink in 1 turn. Each dice you roll is an actual gun on the ship too!

Played some age of sail wargames last month, and I'LL DO IT AGAIN this month. This time playing my War by Sail rules. Last time we used Osprey's Fighting Sail, but they're pretty whack... French 1st rates literally sailing rings around British 1st Rates. Physics doesn't work like that 😂

Rewatching the #StarWars #prequels - noticed this scene doesn't have any music - anyone have any idea why? seems like the kind of place where generally they would have some action score. Did they not have time to score it, or was it a deliberate choice not to have music? #filmmusic #music

Tinkering with cover designs for an upcoming wargame series on special forces and insurgents. Co-op stealth campaign, maybe imagine Rangers of Shadow Deep set in the cold war... Vietnam, Soviet-Afghan War, Burma, LRDG... #wargames #coop Idea is to be rules light, with simple flowchart-ai patrols

What a time to be alive 😨 At least I know how to use SEQUENCE now
Also here are some scans of our cat Ayla. Scanning an object in motion can create unusual results...

I'm sure all my followers are strongly anti-genocide, but if you're a supporter of Israel, feel free to check out my threads reposts, where I am daily reposting the utter evil and horror inflicted by Netanyahu and those Israelis determined to exterminate Palestine:

Really enjoying the Night Dive System Shock 1 remake, so much fun to explore, and been so long that I barely remember anything from the original.
Keep those fucking cyberspace sections away from me though, nearly quit on the last one. Nice they let you adjust the difficulty of those, but not in game

More music from #RuinsofCalaworm! - this time music for the Plateau of Leng: a soft snow falls, you trudge onwards, the eye glasses of your plague mask slowly crystalizing with ice from your own breath...

Richard was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck in Central Otago in 2017, on his way back from the gun club (where he was the armorer). Pistols and ammunition sprayed all over the road as his panniers exploded.
Here's a picture of him, with me on the left and my brother on the right

Remembering my step-dad Richard, who discovered a new species of Turtle and named it after Terry Pratchett! what a legend. He's on the left, explaining the fossil to Terry when he visited us. Richard was quite a character -PhD in geology, loved hunting, shooting, motorcycles, red-socks and sandals.

Discovered some videos of the #ruinsOfCalaworm soundtrack... never before posted for some reason.
Currently preparing a talk for a conference next month, and these will come in handy!

Meant to post these photos too - I think from Lost Battles.
One day I'd love to convert it to a traditional measure n' move wargame

What makes a man turn to grids? Lust for gold? Power? Or were they just born with a heart full of grid?

Honestly I don't know, it has pros and cons - maybe not bad for quite large scale games like battalion level or massive ancient battles. Rommel and Philip Sabin's ancient rules come to mind

Here's another teaser from the soundtrack 🎵 - 30 seconds of ambient music feels like about 10 seconds of regular music 👀
