Honored to join with @transpochoices.bsky.social, @moveredmond.org, Tacoma on the Go!, and so many other partners to urge Sound Transit to #BuildTheDamnTrains!

We're a region that's united behind delivering the transit system that voters were promised as quickly as possible.

Today was an amazing time of joy, community, and place making. Thank you to all the organizations who volunteered their time & materials, and thank you to the amazing community members who shared in the joy with us.

Water barriers are up and being filled now. Supplies are being unloaded and the fun is soon to follow.

A tour of regional pollinators? A racing course for matchbox cars? A sea of bike racks? Pop-up yoga?

From tactical to traditional & everywhere in between, Park(ing) Day always brings out the best examples of urban seating.

Our cities could be more pleasant & accessible if we used some the space where we store cars to store *people* instead. Come see what's possible in Bellevue on September 19th!

With just under two weeks until Bellevue's first-ever Park(ing) Day, we wanted to spend time this week highlighting some excellent installations that have been trialed in other places. Along the way, we'll talk about the magic of Park(ing) Day and how it helps us make better cities for people.

As a member city of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), Bellevue has access to data, case studies, and best practices that should guide its own transportation planning.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel to bring better bus service to Bellevue!

A block of text from NACTO's guide that reads, in part: Giving the bus its own lane increases ridership by improving bus travel time and reliability. In New York City, the 14th Street busway halved transit travel times on the corridor, increasing ridership by 17% in just two months without increasing traffic congestion on adjacent streets.56 Similarly, a four-block bus-bike lane on SW Madison Street in Downtown Portland allows eastbound buses to move as much as 76% faster, benefitting thousands and improving safety for bicyclists. 57 Dedicated bus lanes on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles similarly cut travel times by 28% for over 90,000 daily riders. 58 Dedicated bus lanes are quick to implement and easy to refine. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic illustrated how quickly cities can install bus lanes. In the summer of 2020, as traffic congestion started to return, cities like Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. installed bus lanes in just a few months by streamlining approvals and limiting or eliminating the standard red paint treatment. The more we drive, the less safe we are.

Policies to reduce VMT don't just curb emissions and reduce congestion - they help save lives by keeping people out of dangerous high-speed metal boxes. Our cities *must* support policies that give people safe options to get around - the sooner, the better.

Thank you Bellevue City Council for your unanimous vote to keep transit infrastructure projects in the city's long-range planning!

Funds may be tight right now, but keeping these projects in our plans will allow us to be nimble and respond w/ urgency when money is available.

Thank you to the 15 organizations that have endorsed the Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) Bellevue campaign! We shouldn't have to wait for the crosswalks, bus lanes, bike lanes, and other infrastructure that will keep us safe.
