The Dutch election proved what we've been saying for ages: that PR voting systems tame extremist parties and expose them.

FPTP in Britain has delivered Reform's agenda without them needing to get anywhere near Number 10.

In the @newstatesman1913.bsky.social today, Compass Director Neal Lawson lays bare the story of how Labour's hyperfactionalism - the Starmer-McSweeney Tendency - has brought the party to its knees.

This is just one poll, but it lays bare how shallow Labour’s 2024 victory was.

Last year, ‘Thin Ice’ showed how a fractured system and a progressive electorate hungry for real change demand a new approach from Labour.

That case is stronger than ever today.

Labour’s biggest threat is also its biggest opportunity: the UK’s progressive majority.

One year after ‘Thin Ice’, that truth stands.

The ice is starting to crack.

Labour shouldn’t chase Reform voters. It should inspire progressives.

When we published ‘Thin Ice’, we said Labour would lose twice as many votes to parties on its left than to Reform.

We were right. And the ice is getting thinner.

Taxing to enable social investment doesn't have to be a bad thing.

But this Labour Government does everything for one reason: hyperfactionalism.

Almost as long as there has been a Labour Party, Wales has been Labour. But those days are numbered.

A progressive Wales, one that overcomes not just Reform but the causes of Reform demands a progressive consensus.

🏘️There's huge focus around Labour’s pledge to build 1.5 million homes, and whether they can « build, baby, build ».

But the sheer numbers obscure a more important question: can they do it right?

The Labour council in Lewisham has passed a motion including special administration and nationalisation as solution to Thames Water's crisis.

The Government must realise that people won't stand for private companies failing to run our public services.

Public ownership is needed now.

Privatised water companies are putting your bills up AGAIN.

As if the already agreed £104bn in rises by 2030 wasn't enough, companies have asked for up to 18% more in your bills.

Public ownership is the only option. The arguments against are drying up.
