There never was a general strike during the Great Depression in the 1930s. There were numerous individual strikes i.e. the Flint sit down strike and others. And Americans still got Social Security and progressive labor laws enacted.

re: tarriffs/fees. In my former role as a delivery driver I had numerous customers argue vociferously with me that the tariffs were not their responsibility. This would lead to calls complaining to the seller or the customs broker, often without resolution. Which would lead to orphaned shipments.
