one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

For example, my brother supports Trump and Musk, and is otherwise "too busy for politics." Regarding the Nazi salutes from multiple Republicans, he says, "I'm not sure what that's about." The fascists get *every* consideration, endless consideration, and progressives and Democrats get none.
I'm trying to take things one day at a time, and I'm finding it hard to do a single goddamned thing. And it's not even so much all the evil that's happening as it is that some have supported and allowed this--and believe that continuing it is good.

This should be a MUCH bigger story than it is in the country right now.
One thing that we should all be able to agree on is the importance our democracy. Every citizen should have the ability to vote. And there is no substantial evidence of widespread voter fraud that warrants these extreme measures.
