While I didn't necessarily view the Saltire as entirely innocuous, I wouldn't have put it on a par with the Hakenkreuz, until I passed through a neighbourhood (central Scotland) yesterday where it adorned every other streetlamp (significantly, along with a couple of Union Jacks).

@davidallengreen.bsky.social For practical purposes, banks in Scotland do close on the same dates now (with one or two exceptions) as those in England and Wales, even if it's not an official bank (i.e. public) holiday up here.

My recollection may not be perfect but I seem to remember the Labour Party of forty-odd years ago being anti-immigration viewing it as exploiting workers (here and those coming in) driving down wages.

York, Monday. A better effort than the one I took of the Minster from Bootham which included the inevitable tour bus and local attrations stand. Maybe if I tried at 5 in the morning, I might get a clear shot.
