I don't fear replacement, I fear humans losing the love of doing things for themselves. Why draw? Why ask questions? Why write? Because it brings joy. Because creating, putting forth effort, doing things, is what makes us feel alive. If we turn to machines for all of that, why live?

LLMs work by running statistics on existing data. So, like, if EVERYONE stops researching & innovating, instead just using AI, then that's it: the end of progress by definition, since we'll just be recycling existing data and feeding it back into the models. That's depressing.

My students are shown regularly how badly AI answers questions that they know the answers to.

Last time I felt this experience was back in DeviantArt. Artists used to actively compliment each other or exchange art tips and such.
