Oof. I’m glad he’s willing to do what the team needs, but I’m not emotionally prepared for the resulting deluge of “Rusnak is bad, actually” from fans who don’t watch the games and just look at the stats.

We worked late tonight coming up with this handy pocket guide to send to NPR.
It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It’s particularly annoying that I have to cancel all this because we were grandfathered into an old Disney+/Hulu/ESPN plan that cost less than Disney is charging for any one of those at this point, but you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.

No police injured and no arrests reflects more on the difference between us and uk police than the difference between left-wing and right-wing protestors, though. We shouldn’t use that as a bellwether for our success, since the police can incite violence and arrest innocents to game the numbers.

For sure. That’s exactly what I had in mind with the “if they thought they could get away with it” bit — I definitely think a PL or La Liga playoff would get the European super league treatment from fans.

On the other hand, if they bomb out of the playoffs, I don’t really care very much where they finished the season on the table. Playoffs risk the whole season’s results, and as such feel very much higher stakes than a tournament that is played in addition to normal league play.

I think we’re discussing the same thing but just talking past each other a smidge. The playoffs have a different timbre than a tournament because a tournament is additive — if the sounders bomb out of leagues cup or usoc, that doesn’t change how I think about their league play.

It makes the regular season into a qualifier for the playoffs and awards the title for the season to the winner of the playoffs, rather than the team that accumulated the most points during the regular season. So, the team that wins the league may have come in 6th place during the season.
