Oh academia, how I love you so. Had I a more privileged life I may have stayed a while or returned during a different decade of life. Instead, at the old age of 55+, I have started an 8-week course through OSU, which no doubt subsidizes the course to become an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist.

By renaming it the Gulf of America, all the power of naming a location goes to Mexico, because maps are made from the perspective of travel not ownership. People leaving Mexico will head to the Gulf of America just like taking Harrison Rd meant I’m headed to Harrison farm.

The mapmakers named places from their POV. i.e. Harrison Rd is the road taken to get to Harrison typically from a place that has authority over the maps and names of places. If you live in Mexico then you’re going to say that way to America, through the Gulf of America. Probably not the goal.

Great immersive doc. I learned a lot I didn’t know about one of my favorites. This band tops the list of bands I wish I had seen live. This was the closest thing to it on an imax screen.
