Shmup scoreplayer, speedrunner & amateur musician. He/Him
both games are pretty well-liked imo (certainly I like them both quite a bit). This is just normal in-group vs out-group stuff where the crossover hit doesn't fully align with the community consensus

I don't miss the work of foodservice even a little bit (and I miss a Cook's pay even less) but holy shit do you ever get to *know* your coworkers in a kitchen way beyond any other industry I've seen

Both of these would be learn-by-doing because I'm a lazy bastard who doesn't make tutorials but I humbly submit Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt and Front Mission Gun Hazard as fun-ass speedgames that are alternately very short (under 20 minutes) and somewhat long (just under 3 hours)

You could do worse than Ikaruga as a starting point for scoreplaying, to be honest! It may be a perfectionism trap for compulsive optimizers but the scoring is really intuitive, easy to practice and not as punishing of chain breaks as something like Dodonpachi.

tragically, treasure never actually made a good shmup

(translator's note: "good shmup" means "in the poster's personal top 10 of all time")

When testing my f3 I noticed the game (rayforce, a cart-converted copy so not strictly original) was way offset from the usual overscan area, to the point where the entire score display would probably be missing on a consumer TV, even after maxing out the offset in settings to correct.

Despite being of the "wrong" generation, I've been lucky enough to attend live performances of this piece by The Musical Box a couple times, and words can't express how truly earth-shattering the Apocalypse is when it's right in your face, costumes and all. A religious experience for an atheist.

as a complete baseball outsider I was watching those extra innings the other day and half-facetiously thinking "poor guy, he's so good at the game that he doesn't even get to play"
