Into classic cars, Star Trek, progressive politics, and rum. Views here are my own —especially the bad and cynical ones.
They pretty clearly decided that punting this would keep ACA alive into next year for the midterm elections. And that a continued shutdown would eventually turn against Democrats.

It’s becoming clear that Chuck engineered this whole plan. It’s been in the works for weeks.

And it’ll be clear that Dems helped it happen in bipartisan fashion.

In one fell swoop, Senate Dems tonight have normalized every lawless and horrific thing this administration has done.

So yeah, Schumer is fucking awful. But there’s enough Democrats supporting this debacle that it’s obviously more than a one-guy problem. The party that consistently presents itself as the only bulwark against fascism keeps surrendering to fascism.

Let’s not kid ourselves.
Most voters see the shutdown as a larger fight against a corrupt and lawless Trump regime and the party that supports it. It may be about “healthcare” on paper, but it’s really about Dems in DC proving to voters that they “get it.” But they obviously don’t get it.

Exactly. Healthcare is only the issue on paper. It’s about doing everything Democrats can to resist this administration. Caving in now just endorses all the horrific and corrupt things the Trump regime stands for.

It’s clear this is not all about healthcare. Voters see this as a bigger fight against an authoritarian regime. Caving to Republicans now is waving the white flag and legitimizing everything the GOP supports, from ICE raids on.

An ordinary resolution by a majority of Senate Democrats can replace the Senate Minority Leader (link is for majority leader but it’s the same process).
If 24 Senators (counting independents to get to 47) tell Schumer he’s out if he lets the caucus cave, I doubt they cave today.
