Oscar Wilde was imprisoned in 1895 for homosexuality and served 2 years. He died in 1900. It was just two decades later that this amazing movie was made. It really was brave.

Ooh - I’ll look for this one. Huge Wilde fan. The 1922 film “Salome,” based on Wilde’s play, is a favorite of mine. The art deco sets and costumes are fantastic. From what I’ve read everyone involved in the production was gay. So advanced for its time.
